One more day of work before vacation. I think the teams have everything under control. I noticed positive Teams chatter after I’d logged off and went to the beach. They’ve got it. The need for me is merely a consequence of me being around. After I’m gone, or simply the anticipation of my being gone, and the world closes quickly over the loss and carries on. The storms have passed and our winter beach has returned to it’s familiar attitude and ways. It’s good to run again down and into the surf. No swim yesterday, had to work instead. I Certainly missed it. Maybe I’ll swim twice tomorrow to make up. Retirement has been on my mind a lot lately, though I’m a little scared at the prospect of no work. Sure, I could swim anytime then—but is that a good thing, and would the pleasure of such freedom last? My work is hard, though it sure does fill the days with solid meaning and packs the hours with busy. But then, the clock is ticking hard on this aging body of mine,

Warm skin. This winter sun speaks today of September and April. ”Stay for a while” it seems to say. Enjoy a few minutes with the waning day. I would, but the dogs would like a walk in this sun, too. I missed doing this yesterday. Work kept me late. I actually left the house after dark to go for a swim anyway, Yumiko commenting “you aren’t going to swim in the dark, are you?” I was. But I didn’t. It was cold. And the sea was black. And the beach deserted. I stood and stared and then turned and went home. “Back so soon?” ”Yeah, I changed my mind...” “Good idea, dinner’s ready.” Hmmm... Young me would have gone in. Old me’s no fun sometimes. But, Yumiko’s right, coming
