The Good Life - 08/27/2023 - A heavy poem *
Updated: 6 days ago
The ocean has grown cold. Very cold. Cold like winter. It burns my head when I first get in. And it’s painful and a struggle to swim until everything goes numb and then I’m alright. Just two weeks back the water here in Huntington Beach was warm like Mexico. I could stay in for an hour then without getting chill. Now, its pins and needles and a popsicle headache. Now, I’ll need my resolve to continue going in each day, especially as the days are getting shorter and soon much cooler; and the beach is beginning to empty of people, and the lifeguards will soon be gone. I’ll be alone then again. Just me and the sea. And Angela. And Dale sometimes. And perhaps the Persian M.D.. But I’m resolved to go. I did it last year after all, straight through winter—November through January. And I can do it again! As long as I can remain healthy and able, then I will continue to go into the sea. I won’t pack it in just because of the cold. There’s simply not enough life left for delay or saving such important things for another day.
