The Good Life - 09/08/2023 - “I like to walk and think”

Updated: 6 days ago

I’ve begun to stop waiting for retirement. What this means is that I’ve begun enacting my new way of life now, while still enmeshed in my 9-5 life. The recipe is simple: “I like to walk and think.” That’s it. That’s everything I plan to do. And I’m doing that everything now. I’ve averaged about four miles a day for the last year. Three miles with my wife and our dogs, and another one mile alone each evening at the beach. When I retire next year I’ll simply do the same, but more. I will walk for miles. Together sometimes with my wife. And more often alone with my mind. I will simply “walk and think” which is all I want of life anymore, it’s all I’ve wanted for years. And I’ll come home when it’s time, in the afternoon, evening, or even in the middle of the night. I’ll walk inside our home and say “tadaima” (I’m home) softy when my walking day is done. That’s how I will live after I retire. That’s how I have begun to live now.
