Iâve begun to stop waiting for retirement. What this means is that Iâve begun enacting my new way of life now, while still enmeshed in my 9-5 life. The recipe is simple: âI like to walk and think.â Thatâs it. Thatâs everything I plan to do. And Iâm doing that everything now. Iâve averaged about four miles a day for the last year. Three miles with my wife and our dogs, and another one mile alone each evening at the beach. When I retire next year Iâll simply do the same, but more. I will walk for miles. Together sometimes with my wife. And more often alone with my mind. I will simply âwalk and thinkâ which is all I want of life anymore, itâs all Iâve wanted for years. And Iâll come home when itâs time, in the afternoon, evening, or even in the middle of the night. Iâll walk inside our home and say âtadaimaâ (Iâm home) softy when my walking day is done. Thatâs how I will live after I retire. Thatâs how I have begun to live now.
