My days have begun to slow on their own. As I’d aged from my twenties through my fifties it seemed life slowly sped up. But now, things are becoming slow again. Yesterday, was the slowest day yet. As slow as when I was nine, and a single day lasted like a long summer rain. By three PM I asked myself, “Is this day still going? How does time stretch on so long?” And I filled the day well. Like pouring lemonade slowly into a tall glass. When night finally arrived, I went to bed at 8:30 and disappeared into a deep and absolute oblivion of sleep.
It’s pre-dawn now next day, and yesterday is remembered like a dream. How did such a day happen? Why did time seem to slow? Will it happen again today? Is this what it’s like to embrace getting old?
