The Good Life - 07/26/2023 - Climbing Everest

I’m sleeping every night now, straight through, from the moment I rest my head on my pillow at 9:00 PM until the alarm sounds at 4:00 AM—it’s one long pitch of night, empty and deep, a fall into nothing like when I was a kid. So, it was work all along. And my stress over my job. I knew that. And this wasn’t my job’s fault, it’s just a job. The issue was me, and how seriously I took everything at work all the time. That’s a good thing though, as taking my job seriously made me do a good job, which is what I needed to do to support my family and do my duty. In hindsight, I don’t see how I could have lived any other way. So, those painful years of insomnia and deep stress were something I perhaps could not have avoided, like entering the Death Zone when climbing Mt. Everest. The only seeming other option being to simply not climb Everest—which was never really an option.
