Red Roof House for sale in Atami Japan

Here’s a tiny little place that we looked at in Japan. By nearly all standards this place is too old and small and way too full of ghosts. Yet, I adore this little plot of land and the tiny home and the surrounding community which positively spill over with history and character. The garden here seems to have very old bones, with remnants of many past hands churning the soil, planting the earth and cultivating the type or ornamental landscapes in miniature which Japan is famous for. And was that yet another headless stone divinity I found there in the middle of the yard?? I do seem to have a knack for finding dead gods. Anyway, this house won’t be the one for us, yet I will enjoy it in the same way my hero H. D. Thoreau did enjoy his deed-less possession of nearly every home and farm in Concord, as he describes below. Click here to learn more about this house.

“I walked over each farmer's premises, tasted his wild apples, discoursed on husbandry with him, took his farm at his price, at any price, mortgaging it to him in my mind; even put a higher price on it- took everything but a deed of it-took his word for his deed, for I dearly love to talk- cultivated it, and him too to some extent, I trust, and withdrew when I had enjoyed it long enough, leaving him to carry it on. This experience entitled me to be regarded as a sort of real-estate broker by my friends. Wherever I sat, there I might live, and the landscape radiated from me accordingly.” -Henry David Thoreau
