Day eighteen ocean swim
Settling in now. Life routine has reconfigured and is becoming set, locked in in a way. It’s that way on vacation too, after a few days. Patterns and habits form and become familiar; normal sets in, and comfort grows, like worn-in sneakers. The novelty is fun, though few really wish to remain on vacation forever. But new routines can be unique, novel and known at the same time. That’s an edge, to be sure. Novel habits. A collection of ways and means gathered across successive chapters of life, within a single life. There’s the trick. Death to now. Life to what’s next. And then death to now again—and again, again. Until we one day run out of agains.
