The old body is being a bit of a grump now on Christmas Day. The doctor confirmed my growing joint pain is arthritis, which feels more real and permanent with a doctor’s formal diagnosis. But my mind is good, mostly—just tired. But that’ll pass, and I’ll just ignore the arthritis while I still can. It’s good to get old though, and experience another holiday season passing. For with age comes a softening peace, borne of the now routine passage of time; it being another holiday season tomorrow, and yet another again the day after that. I’d better get up then and feed and walk the dogs, and enjoy Christmas with my family, and go to the beach for a swim, and read and enjoy my book, and have dinner and watch our show together with my wife, and then go to bed and sleep well hopefully to wake up tomorrow for another chance; day after day, holiday seasons again, years upon the years which might remain—never less than truly glad to be alive.
