This new and fast-growing lump in my body has so far only distracted me from my unwarranted ideas of the future. And that’s a very good distraction. And the pain is also grounding, and another good beacon towards what is real and present and true. It’s like suddenly coming upon rocks while sailing far out at sea. The sudden appearance of sharp and jagged stones above the waves, where there was no light or warning bell and only splashing waves and foam to alert. Gotta steer clear of that, if I can! And if I can’t—well, it sure was a fine day of sailing.
