The Good Life - 07/30/2023 - A long swim along the coast

A powerful day yesterday. At dawn, I went to the beach with my flippers and jumped headlong into the sea. The waves were large, and I swam strongly out beyond the breakers to swim alone along the coast. My body felt young again, and strong, and nimble—and I plowed for an hour down the coast from lifeguard tower 18 towards the pier and then back. When I returned to the sand I felt like I was twenty-one again, so strong, and with my brain clear and firing on all cylinders. The experience was an illusion of course—I’m old. But what a nice thing it was to feel so young again. And before coming home, I just sat on the sand naked but for my shorts, the sunrise warming my skin, drying saltwater and the smell and taste of the sea. And I burned the memory of that morning swim into my mind. A treasure of life. A bit of living I truly wish to remember for whatever time remains.
