The Good Life - 07/22/2023 - Ready to die
My life’s first objective is to be always ready to die. It’s what I strive for daily. To live and be in such a way as to be prepared to pass into oblivion without a single backwards glance, leaving behind an orderly life of virtue with all of my personal relationships settled, sound and at peace. I’ve lately attended to my will and advance directive. And yesterday I made sure my wife will be alright if I go first. My daughter is grown and good and my book is done. All that’s left is to be a decent man to the end of my days. This feeling is like that moment at sundown when we first spot Venus wink on above the horizon—there you are! The evening star has arrived!
The Good Life Meditation is my daily recitation and reminder of personal objectives and principles used in pursuit of a purposeful life in spite of a universe of seeming indifference.
