☀️ The Good Life - 06/22/2023 - Lifeguard rescue *

Updated: Oct 19, 2023

Yesterday, I was swimming alone after work out past the breakers, when I suddenly heard a voice next to me say “please come back to shore.” It was a young man, a lifeguard, who came out to get me. Apparently, I’d been caught in a rip current and was headed out to sea, and the lifeguard was doing his job—rescuing me. Swimming back, we talked of stingrays. Back on shore I thanked the young man warmly, telling him sincerely what a great job he was doing. His smile revealed his deep satisfaction in keeping all of us safe. Years ago I might have been bothered by the interruption, intrusion really, of my quiet peaceful swim. Not anymore though, as I always now strive to see instead the intent behind every action I meet. The young lifeguard intended to keep me safe, to save me, which is the point and duty of his job—whether I needed saving or not hardly matters.
