The Good Life - 06/08/2023 - Time to sell the bike

Updated: Jun 9

It’s time to sell my motorcycle. I don’t want or need it anymore. My riding days are done. Never again do I wish to ride. That part of my life simply came to an end, like a great theatre curtain closing upon a play suddenly complete. And now I’ve risen from my theatre seat, the lights have switched on, I’ve gathered my things and have begun to move on. But I still need to sell the bike, give away my riding gear and throw my old helmet in the dumpster by the road. It’s good to get old and to outgrow old ways, and to give up the past and to say goodbye to whomever we no longer are.

Instead of my motorcycle, I’ll take my two feet to walk and my butt to sit in my chair in the yard or a large rock by the side of the road. Instead of miles of winding roads and the wind in my hair, I’ll take a neighborhood stroll with my wife and the dogs or a barefoot walk on the beach alone with my book or my thoughts and my time. It’s so good and delicious to grow old and to outlive who I once was. Those days were good. But better days have already come.
