STOIC POETRY | Nailing a job interview

Updated: Sep 4, 2021

I was asked recently in comments to share my thoughts and advice about landing a job. In short, I have three ideas to share regarding how to prepare for an interview. These ideas are more about understanding the business problem your potential employer is trying to solve rather than selling yourself simply as the most qualified candidate. As presenting ourselves as the person who will help reduce or alleviate the worry of those who own responsibility and who are looking for help to this end is the best way to become the one who is invited to accept the job.

In this video I will cover three main points:

  1. Learn about the company, their market, their products and the challenges they do face.

  2. Understand the role you are applying to fill, the company culture where you might work and the possible expectations of those to whom you may report.

  3. Discover what keeps your potential employer "up at night." What business worries they have and how you might be able to help.

Once armed with a knowledge of the company, their mission, the job you are after, the company culture and where your employer's pain points are which they hope to address with this job, then you are ready to honestly position yourself as the right person for the job, or perhaps realize you are not, and then continue your search.
