The Good Life - 05/28/2023 - Staid at dawn

Updated: May 29

Another sound night of sleep. Deep, dark and dreamless. A sleep like death is such a delight to awake from. Morning after the deepest night. I can’t remember the last time I lay awake smothered in thoughts of work. I won’t be so bold as to suggest those days are done—though I think they are done. I’m not even worried much about my tumor. So what if it kills me? All my work is done. I’ve finished everything I’d set out to do in life. It’s all complete. Now is the time to enjoy poetry at dawn. To play guitar in the garden as the sun goes down. To work hard—though remaining disconnected—when I must. To scheme with my wife about our fun tomorrows to come, even if those tomorrows never come. And if they do come, like tomorrow came today, then I will not waste the time. I know better now how to not fail to live.
