Two pubic hairs

I learned during this morning’s Bible study that a man may not sell his daughter after she has grown two pubic hairs.

  • If I put a gun to your head and instruct you to love me or die, would your love be true? If God shows you hell and instructs you to love Him or die, would your love be true? And is such a choice freely made?
  • “Do not invoke the names of other gods; do not let them be heard on your lips.” Exodus 23:13 “...for I, the Lord your God am a jealous God...” Exodus 20:5 What good does jealousy serve?
  • Exodus 22 - Protection of Property God explains that anyone who steals an ox or a sheep and disposes of the animal by selling or slaughtering it must pay back five cattle for each cattle stolen and four sheep for each sheep which was stolen. God then goes on to explain what to do if a thief is caught breaking into a house and is killed by the master of the home. If the killing occurs at night, then the master is not guilty of bloodshed; though if the killing happens after sunrise then the master is guilty of killing. Anyone who steals anything at all must make restitution, but if they cannot then the convicted thief will be sold into slavery to pay for their crime. If a stolen animal is recovered alive, then the thief must give the animal back to the rightful owner and also give another animal like it in payment for his theft. If a man grazes his animal in another man's field, allowing the animal to eat the other man’s corn, then he must repay the man from the best of his own field. Likewise, if a man kindles a fire in a field and the fire then spreads and consumes the grain of another man's field. If someone gives their valuables to another for safe-keeping and the valuables are then stolen, and if the thief is caught, then the thief must pay back double. But if the thief is not found, then the case must be taken to the judges who will decide if the person who was keeping the goods is guilty of theft. If one of the parties takes a vow before the Lord then his case will prevail in the favor of the man who took the vow. If someone borrows an animal and it dies, then the person who borrowed will make up for the loss; that is, unless the owner of the animal was present when the animal died, in which case the borrower is not responsible for the loss. If the animal was hired then the person who hired the animal does not need to make up the loss as it was a hired beast. If a man sleeps with a virgin then he must marry her and pay her father the full bridal dowry. Even if the father refuses to allow the man to marry his daughter, he must still pay the full dowry. Witches are not to be allowed to live. Anyone who has sex with an animal must be put to death. Anyone who sacrifices to any god other than the lord must be utterly destroyed - nothing of them should remain - they should be burned to ash. We should not mistreat a foreigner, for we were once foreigners in Egypt. Also, do not mistreat or oppress a widow or an orphan, for the Lord will hear their cry and kill you with the sword, making your own wife a widow and your own children orphans. If we have money to lend, then lend it to the Jew over the gentile, and to the poor before the rich, and to the neighbor ahead of the foreigner. Do not charge interest to the Jew and do not pester him for payment or embarrass him for his debt. If you take an essential item of his as collateral for the loan - such as his cloak - then you must return it to him at sunset so that he will have something in which to sleep. Do not blaspheme God or curse your rulers. Do not hold back offerings, including offerings from your field and vineyard, your herds or even your own family. You must give the priest a sum of money when your first-born son is thirty-days old. Always be holy people before the Lord. Do not eat any animal which has been killed by wild beasts. You may only give such meat to the dogs or give or sell it to the gentile.

Going Alone was begun by Kurt Bell in an effort to help others understand and manage  the recognition of the apparent indifference of the universe to our well being, happiness or even our existence, and to find ways to make a good life in spite of this fact.
