The Good Life - 11/27/2022 - Dull routine

I slept in this morning and my schedule is off. I’m half an hour behind on everything I normally do, and this is more than a little unsettling. Funny how a guy who doesn’t remain settled, nevertheless demands of himself a stable routine. That’s because my routine serves the function of addressing each day’s necessary actions: hygene, work, dog walk and feedings, shopping, meals and all the rest. With these necessities set to a schedule and rhythm, my mind is then free to wander above the fray, thinking as it does while my body performs chores; wondering to itself beyond routine, enjoying background musings while keeping home and hearth clean, tidy and kempt. Sleeping in unsettles this plan; the train arrives and departs the station too late, the passengers are unsettled the rest of the day, the schedule is shot. But that’s alright. It’s Sunday after all. A good day to play it by ear, practice going with the flow, worrying less about structure and routine…

Nah, that life isn’t for me. Give me lot’s of lives within a single life, with deep and abiding routine within each. I don’t want to spend my time thinking about boring stuff—let all that happen on auto-pilot, instead.
