I kinda blew it last night. I spoiled the fun a little at Emily’s twenty-second birthday party—happy birthday, sweetie!—after wearing myself out during the day with way too much physical activity. I wasn’t sullen or moody, but just not myself, as I sat before my sushi utterly spent and exhausted. It was a good time though, with great food, and our family’s second party in two days, including our Japanese Thanksgiving feast the night before. So, note to self: go easy on the physical activity the day before an evening party, especially if you’ve been partying the night before—you’re not a young man anymore and you need to keep something in reserve to last the full day. And stock your mind with topics of easy conversation, like religion, politics and finance, to use when you’ve run out of things to say.
