Lately, there’s sand in our house. Lots of sand. Everywhere. On the floor. In bed. Spilling out of my hair. Deep inside my ears. This morning, there was even a small pile of sand on the breakfast table which caused Yumiko to exclaim “what’s that??” And I do shower as soon as I get home from the beach. Nevertheless, the sand finds its way. This video may help explain the reason. It’s because while I’m swimming in the ocean the wind blows sand over everything I’ve left on the beach. Sand gets into the fabric of my towel, in the crevices of my shoes, deep into my bag—into everything. I guess there’s worse problems in life than sand. I expect I’ll remember and miss the sand when Yumiko and I one day leave this place behind.
